Two weeks ago XNEWS
carried an article entitled ONLY IN AMERICA which
out lined some crazy laws, which governed some of the citizens
in this great nation. Now we look at some other countries governed
by crazy laws
Lets start with Alaska
Believe it or not Eskimo laws prohibit parents from bathing
their children? For the record, Eskimos on a whole dont
shower simply because their climate is so cold, there fore
dust and sweat free, they dont need to.
Asia
Several countries such as Syria, Iran, Iraq in the Asian continent
forbid their women from showing any part of their skin apart
from their hands (wrists down) in public Whilst men can dress
as they please, most women on the other hand, are by law required
to cover their face and wear ankle-length, long sleeve dresses
and robes. A public whipping is the most common punishment
for women who are found guilty of showing their bodies in
public.
Africa
In Africa several tribes go about deciding who marries who
in a strange way. With no such thing as love playing
a part in the matrimony, a family from one tribe may offer
eight cows, four goats and three pigs for the daughter of
a family in another tribe. This package is then negotiated
until a mutual settlement is agreed upon. As for the wedding?
They simply make the change: one tribe has a ceremony (you
know
the usual dance and chant around a fire) to celebrate
the addition of a female to their group, and the other tribe
celebrates their new addition of life stock.
England
While it is the norm in Jamaica for us to pass slaughtered
animals laying in the middle of the road after being run over
by a motor vehicle. In England how ever, if a motorist hit
a stray animal, he or she is required by law to pick up the
animal, dead or alive, and take it to the nearest police station
to file a report. I hate to picture this, but can you imagine
a single woman or old person striking
say a cow? Now
imagine them single-handedly trying to load it in the trunk
of their vehicle!
Jamaica
a stray animal may run into the path of your car causing an
accident, which may run you tens of thousands of dollars worth
of damage. If you were to take the owner of the animal to
court however, he or she, according to our constitution, can
only be fined a maximum of $250. Yes!
Two dollars and
fifty cents. Ooh
fire crackers are still illegal and
attract fines running into thousands of dollars, yet come
Christmas time, everybody, I mean everybody who desires to
have pockets fill of clappers can pick these up
from just about any street vender and even some stores. So
much for being illegal or banned.
