Hunger, the key factor for me rushing to the Pkwy. After leaving Old Hits Sunday at Club Large, I was prepared for the Shou-Ouver on Flatbush Ave. because last year I was there and it was exciting to see the amount of people who turned out, nonetheless nothing had changed.

There were people ranting and raving, spreading powder and drinking rum hidden in water bottles and what ever they could carry it. I was around Maple St. when I heard a volley of shots being fired in the direction of Winthrop and the crowd running in all directions. That killed my vibes so around 6:30 AM I headed on home for a 2 hours sleep.

After linking some of my friends around 1:30 PM we started walking to the Pkwy which is 7 blocks from my neighborhood. I must say there were more cops than I had noticed in years past, which may have been from the incident on Flatbush that morning. I heard two people had gotten shot. But it's all good since I have nothing personal against NYPD since they are people like me doing their jobs. Food was every where, but I'm a picky eater the first vender I was not going to buy the food because their menu said Jerk Chicken, Jerk Pork. I don't eat pork. I settled for some curry goat with white rice from a stall that the people seemed to be from St. Kitts. Tasted good, got to find their restaurant, no lie!

Now I'm giving an account of only what I saw, I had no report or schedule of which float is whose, you are getting an onlookers point of view so bear with me, if I don't know the names of each float.

The float with Beenie man was bumping, he and Bling Dog had the crowd moving, hitting them with their hit tunes, but for some reason those trucks, with the drivers getting instructions from a police escort were all moving fast, it only paused where I was standing because the police officer had to get down and check something and they were off again, the second truck had no name or marking but the amount of flags stood out saying Grenada. They were jumping up getting on badd! I kinda lost interest in the floats; they were not stopping not even for three minutes.

I wanted a drink, opps! It's now illegal to drink in public before it was ok to drink at the Pkwy, but that was before Giuliani's time. Some times I think if he had his way Labor day all together would have been banned. I started girl watching, a whole half hour went by I did not see any floats some were turned into side streets before they even reached Nostrand ave, for instance the Haitian float which is usually the biggest crown were turned on Albany Ave, that is only three blacks from the starting point last year their crowd stretched four blocks and more, I was unable to tell this time since they had just started gathering before being ejected from the pkwy. Other than all the girls to look at I did not really enjoy the show. I was looking forward to Clouds big dance at warehouse, now that is another story.
